If you own an iPad or iPhone, no doubt you will now be familiar with the latest updates to all the various Facebook apps that launched last week. Last Thursday the stand alone Facebook app was updated from the old slow running HTML5 app to a new iOS app, which has been written in its native code, working to improve load times.
Mick Johnson, Facebook’s iOS product manager, said: "We’ve rebuilt the app from the ground up, so now the app opens much faster and your news feed and notifications load right when you open Facebook"
Other improvements also include instant photo loading, as well as the ability to swipe through images in a photo album from your news feed, and an alert bar that lets you know if there are new stories in your feed that will take you right there.
The updates to the iPhone apps is part of Facebook’s plan to increase revenue from smartphones as mobile internet usage continues to grow.
U.S. President Barack Obama took part in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Wednesday and this resulted in Reddit Crashing, due to the high volume of traffic. Reddit has said that more than 200,000 people were trying to view the Q&A at any one time and that over 1.8 million people subscribed to the thread.
So, what important topics were covered in the Q&A, did they ask about his stand on gay marriage or other such pressing subjects? Yes there were some important political questions, but there are also some not so topical questions, such as, “Star Trek or Star Wars?”, “What colour is your toothbrush?” and my personal favourite, “Do you think you could beat Abraham Lincoln in a knife fight?”
If you use Klout then you will know that it recently had an algorithm update and all users received a new Klout score. Yesterday, Klout sent out emails to some users, inviting them to preview the new layout.
The new interface has a ‘Your Moments’ section, which documents which of your updates have been included and how they rate your score. As it’s still in preview mode there are some glitches, for example it can’t tell if a Twitter account is spamming you with a message i.e. ‘Someone is saying really nasty things about you: http://spamlink’.
The new interface has got rid of the influence matrix too.
What do you think about the updates?
