Last week saw the first ever BrightonCRO event, organised by Fresh Egg’s Digital Marketing Consultant, Duncan Heath, and Pete Taylor, Director of Optimisation at The Student Room.
Billed as Brighton’s first dedicated Conversion Rate Optimisation meet-up, four expert speakers from the CRO and UX industry presented topics ranging from creating the right environment for your CRO campaign to common pitfalls to avoid. The event was held in The Student Room offices next to Brighton station on Thursday 25 September.
Julian Erbsloeh, Senior Digital Marketing Analyst, Fresh Egg
Julian’s presentation was about ensuring that you know how you’re going to measure your CRO campaigns. He spoke through the advanced configurations that need to be set up in Google Analytics to support your CRO campaign.

Tai Rattigan, Head of Partnerships EMEA, Optimizely
Tai works with many partner agencies, including Fresh Egg, at Optimizely. His presentation covered the steps that need to be taken before each experiment you carry out. View Tai’s presentation here.
Adam Lee, Managing Director, No Pork Pies
Adam’s presentation, called Love at First Site, analysed user behaviour online and how tools such as heat mapping and eye tracking technology can track engagement and patterns in behaviour. See Adam’s presentation below.
Craig Sullivan, Freelance optimiser
Craig has worked in the industry since 2004 and is well- known on Twitter as @OptimiseOrDie. His presentation was about the many mistakes he has made in his testing career and how you can avoid making the same errors.
Such problems included stopping your test when you hit 95% significance, which can be a false positive and cause your results to be unreliable. Find out what the other problems were with Craig’s slides below.
