Fresh Egg’s Christmas Giving Tree 2014

Marketing and communications coordinator

Fresh Egg is more than a little proud of the community into which it was born. Founded in Worthing nearly 15 years ago and with its head office in the heart of the town, Fresh Egg has done a lot of work with local organisations and charities over the years; from talks and training to sponsored challenges and apprenticeship schemes.

One such initiative is our Christmas #GivingTree, which is now in its third year. It’s one of my favourites as its premise is simple and benefits tangible. Our Giving Tree guarantees just a few local people will receive a gift this Christmas, when perhaps they would otherwise not.

Local charities

This year, we approached three local organisations: Worthing Churches Homeless Projects (WCHP), St Barnabas Hospice and Rockinghorse Children’s Charity. With their help, we have collected a list of gift ideas, which we have written onto a stack of tags and added to the Christmas tree in our reception area.

WCHP, which provides day centre and accommodation support for hundreds of local homeless people each year, is an organisation that Fresh Egg has supported for some time now.  We even participate in their annual sponsored sleepout, a fun but freezing fundraiser that takes place each January. The gifts we donate will go to residents of the project’s overnight accommodation facilities.

St Barnabas House provides day hospice, out-patient and respite support for adults who are approaching the end of their lives. The hospice provides care to patients free of charge, so it is largely dependent on the support of the local community to funds its services. Gifts from the Giving Tree will be distributed to the day hospice guests at their Christmas coffee morning.

Rockinghorse is a Brighton-based charity which aims to improve healthcare and services for sick children, babies and teenagers. Rockinghorse raises money for state of the art medical and play equipment as well as providing support for respite centres and children’s charities throughout Sussex. The Giving Tree will provide gifts for a number of sick babies, children and young adults.

You can get involved!

We are inviting our staff as well as local people and passers-by to grab a tag and purchase a gift up to the value of £10. Once the gift has been bought, just wrap it up* attach the tag and drop it back under the tree. We’ll be distributing the gifts later this month.

*if you take a Rockinghorse tag, please leave the present unwrapped as they will need to be checked before distribution. Thank you.

Thank you for your ongoing support!
