Friday Social Round Up: Is Social Media Killing Journalism? Facebook Trending Articles and TuPac Rises
Facebook Trending Articles
Facebook is testing a new feature at the moment called ‘Trending Articles’. From screenshots that are circulating the Internet it would appear that Facebook is using social reader apps such as The Guardian and The Huffington Post to promote articles read by the users’ friends in their News Feed.
The new feature appears to dominate the News Feed page, displaying the article title, an image and the beginning of the story, as well as, telling the user where the article has come from and which of the user’s friends have already read the article.
Klout Brand Pages
Klout has released a beta version of brand pages, which they have named Brand Squads, with Red Bull as its only launch partner.
The social media tool, which scores users from 0 to 100 based on their activity on various social media channels, will gradually roll out more Brand Squads in the next few weeks. Each page will feature the brand’s logo with a list of both their top 10 and top 100 influencers as well as an activity stream and brand deals available through Klout’s Perks platform.
Klout’s spokesperson Lynn Fox said: “The bottom line is that we are creating a place where influencers can be recognised and have an impact on brands.”
