Mental Health Awareness Week

Caring is one of the core values of Fresh Egg. Fresh Egg-ers endeavour to uphold this value by being down to earth, honest, friendly and approachable, and caring towards our clients and colleagues every day.

Part of being genuinely caring is showing empathy and understanding for others while lending support where it’s needed. But it’s not always easy and can prove especially challenging in the work environment when everyone is busy with their own tasks and ‘to do’ lists.

Sometimes, we need to take a step back and take a deep breath. To acknowledge this, we have been participating in the Mental Health Foundation’s Mental Health Awareness Week 2015 (#MHAW15) this week.



The theme of #MHAW15 is ‘Mindfulness’ and the premise is that rather than getting caught up in the pressures of modern living, we should all take time to focus on ourselves and pay attention to the present moment – the now rather than next week or next month.

Many activities can help us to be more mindful. Some suggestions include gentle exercise (such as walking and yoga), meditation and breathing exercises, or even just a long soak in the bath. Whatever you choose, mindfulness can be a useful tool for managing stress and staying mentally healthy.

So this week, to help remind us to be mindful, to raise awareness of mental health, to show caring and to have a bit of fun, we set up a few activities in and around the office. Read on to find out what we’ve been getting up to.


Mindful eating

We held a shared ‘mindfulness lunch’ in the kitchen at Worthing HQ. Everyone was invited to bring along foods known to benefit mental health in terms of reducing stress levels, improving memory and enhancing concentration. Foods such as peanut butter, avocado, spinach, lentils, blueberries and pumpkin seeds we all on the list, and turnout was great! 



Our marketing and communications coordinator, Laura Ward, hosted a relaxation session to share some relaxation techniques including cleansing and energising breathing techniques, simple stretches for stagnant desk workers and a body scan practice.


Daily mindfulness tips

We released a different mindfulness tip each day on the Fresh Egg slide show, which displays across the three offices in Worthing, London and Sydney.
