A Year of Impact: Will Davis on SEO Strategy, AI, and Life at Fresh Egg

By Emma Couling|2 Sept 2025
We asked SEO Director Will about his first year at Fresh Egg, his magic formula for getting great results for clients, and what's next with the ever-changing, fast-paced AI world.
Firstly, It’s Hard to Believe It’s Almost Been a Year Since You Joined the Team! Tell Us a Bit About Your Career to Date, How You Arrived as SEO Director at Fresh Egg, and What’s Stood Out to You on Your Journey so Far?
This $64,000 question has been put to me a few times. I didn't set out of school with SEO in mind (who does?). I have always followed the parts of my roles that have piqued my interest most and given me the most satisfaction from completing the work.
I started my career in a broader Marketing role, and quickly moved into Web marketing. I started working in-house at a major energy supplier. Over time, I refined my interests and leveraged the experience I had gained through CMS migrations to help clients. I moved to an agency in 2018, and I have never looked back. There is significant satisfaction in tackling numerous unique problems across various industries and markets and generating positive results.
What Excites You Most About Working Here?
The thing I tell all my old colleagues about working here is that I really enjoy working with people at the top of their game. I remember calling my wife as I left the interview and telling her as much. Something I will still tell anybody that asks today.
What’s Your SEO "Magic Formula" for Client Success?
Iterative SEO. Treat everything like a test for the next version. Even trying something small and failing is a learning experience for the next version. There is no magic lever to pull. You create small wins with each iteration. With win after win after win, it compounds into something significant.

Will's Take on Common SEO Misconceptions
Many people (still) believe great SEO is all about the technical aspects. Don't get me wrong, technical aspects are a critical part of the discipline, but half the battle is in ensuring you are answering the questions your audience is asking. You can't treat a website like a magazine.
What Misconceptions Do People Have About SEO?
Many people (still) believe great SEO is all about the technical aspects. Don't get me wrong, technical aspects are a critical part of the discipline, but half the battle is in ensuring you are answering the questions your audience is asking. You can't treat a website like a magazine. People won't read a site to find out what you want to tell them this week (with a few exceptions). You need to be there when people are looking for the information, and the art is in working out what your audience will be asking and demonstrating to search engines that you are the best person to be answering that for them.
How Is AI Changing Your Workflow?
From a personal working level? Efficiency. It's freeing me up to implement strategy and move the needle for clients in a bigger way.
From the perspective of the work we do for our clients, it's adding a different lens to analyse a site through as well. As AI becomes increasingly prevalent, it is changing the prioritisation of tasks. The same fundamentals apply, but are weighted in a new way to ensure that people have access to the correct information wherever they are looking for it.
If You Could Only Use One Website or App, What Would It Be and Why?
Discord. Both app and website. Over the years, I have picked up friends and colleagues from all over, and it's the primary way we stay in touch. I have a Discord server for everything. From Gig updates and Video Games, to SEO News and Strategies and Film Reviews. That's my 'one app to rule them all'
What’s Your Favourite Song, Podcast, or Playlist?
I am unusual in this, but I am not that much of a music man. My taste is eclectic, and more often than not, you'll find me listening to a podcast or book. On my Wednesday commute, I listen to The Rest Is Entertainment, which I highly recommend if you are not already listening. However, I am also a fan of anything that accompanies a show I am watching. I am keenly awaiting the Celebrity version of Traitors and its accompanying podcast to keep me entertained on my Wednesday mornings.
Finally, (The Most Important Question), What Is Your Favourite Way to Eat an Egg? (If There Is One!)
Boil water for six minutes, then immediately submerge the egg (or eggs) under cold water. Shell it and cut it in half. Put it right on top of a bowl of ramen. A splash of chilli oil on top to make it perfect. Delicious!
(and I can't wait to see what image you find for this :P )
