Meet Taz our amazing new Recruitment Services Manager
Culture | 3 MIN READ
We caught up with Taz Olliver, who recently joined our Recruitment team as Recruitment Services Manager. We asked Taz about her move to Fresh Egg, her expectations for the role, and what both colleagues and clients can expect.
Firstly, welcome, Taz. Describe your career path to date and what made you get into the world of recruitment.
It was (actually) a happy accident. I spent much of my early career working in telesales and enjoyed rapport-building with customers and being in a target-driven environment. A manager at the time pointed out that the skills I had learnt would be an excellent fit for a recruitment role, so I took the leap and have never looked back.
I enjoy trying to understand people. The hiring managers and what they are looking for, and the candidates. Matching candidates to the correct role is a fine art and extremely rewarding.
Taz Olliver, Recruitment Services Manager
What made you choose Fresh Egg as the next step in your career path?
I had been recruiting for a few years in the care sector and throughout the pandemic, which was incredibly emotionally challenging. Now we are out on the other side. I wanted to challenge myself differently by moving into a new sector.
What differences have you seen moving from the public sector to a fast-moving digital agency?
It has certainly been an adjustment! I love working in a proactive, energetic and positive environment. I learnt a great deal from my time in the public sector, but I love the change of pace.
What do you think makes an excellent recruiter?
Listening skills! The real skill is listening to what people want and need and finding it for them. Often, recruiters have a reputation of being a salesperson with the gift of the gab - I have to disagree with the stereotype.
What aspects of digital interest you?
I find analytics rather interesting, the data and insight we can gather and how that can go into planning strategy and, in turn, improve results.
Be brave; what did you know about the SEO, PPC and CRO acronyms before joining us?
I did not have a clue about the acronyms at all! I had experience with google AdWords, WordPress and paid social media adverts, but honestly, I had no idea there were acronyms for them.
Do you have a digital challenge we can help you with?
What tips would you have for anyone looking to get into recruitment?
I think experience in customer service roles is a must. You learn so much about yourself and others' communication styles and, most importantly, how to build rapport with people.
What trends in the digital recruitment space have you noticed already?
Until recently, there has been a trend of people going freelance, but this is starting to change. Although being freelance can bring a lot of independence, I know when speaking with people, many want to work as part of a team again.
What would it be and why if you could use only one website (or app)?
I would have to say WhatsApp. My friends and I are fans of using voice after a busy day and being too tired to type.
What are you most looking forward to about working at Fresh Egg?
Getting back to the office! I worked from home a lot the last few years, so it's nice to have a change of scenery and be around so many friendly faces.
What intrigues you most about recruitment?
I enjoy trying to understand people. The hiring managers and what they are looking for, and the candidates. Matching candidates to the correct role is a fine art and extremely rewarding.
You can only use one tool to do your job. What is it, and why?
In my previous job, I covered my desk in post-its, so I have to say I love using Trello as it is like a place for my virtual post-its.
What do your friends and family think you do for a job?
Something to do with IT, they don't pay too much attention, although they all remember there is a transformer in the office.
Finally, what is your favourite way to eat an egg (if there is one)?
There is only one way. Scrambled egg on toast with a bit of cheese and black pepper. Yum!
